THE ART OF TRANSFORMATIONAL COACHING

LED BY DR. KEITH MERRON

I have been a coach and a consultant of organizations for the past 38 years. In addition, I am the author of 6 books about Leadership and Organizational Change, a creator and facilitator of hundreds of personal growth workshops, and a professor at Hult International Business School (please take a look at my bio on this website).

I have just published my most recent book titled: The Art of Transformational Coaching. The target audience for the book is the hundreds of thousands of people in the “helping” professions – including coaches, therapists and anyone interested in getting better at helping others.

I believe that most coaches and anyone in the helping profession take approaches that are sub-optimal. They offer advice, give guidance, tell people what they should or shouldn’t do, and often these measures don’t really help. They may ameliorate the symptoms or temporarily cause a change, but unless their efforts produce enduring results, it’s not useful. This occurs because when someone goes to another for help, often the causes of their difficulty are deeply entrenched into their thinking. Problems are often knotty, complex, and seemingly intractable and the strategies helpers use often don’t get at the fundamental issue. As a result, the help does not produce the necessary transformation.

I am offering an online workshop to the public on the art of transformational coaching. The goal of this workshop is to offer guidance about personal transformation such that participants will leave more able to be an agent of transformation for others. The workshop is designed to elucidate what I believe are the fundamental principles and mindset needed to help others transform their personal paradigms, as well as to help participants put those principles into practice. In this workshop, I share my understanding of personal paradigms—how they form and get solidified, how to approach personal paradigm change, and the steps necessary to produce success.

As a result of the workshop, participants will:

1.    Have a clear understanding of the nature of personal paradigms and how to help others change them

2.    Have a clear 7-step model for how to guide others through a transformation

3. Learn about the power and potency of mapping paradigms in ways that provide powerful insights.

4.    Develop important skills as a coach such as:

a.   How to contract with another in a way that increases the possibility for transformation

b.   How to detect a limiting paradigm

c.   How to offer perspective rather than advice

d.   How to create ownership on the part of the client/coachee and its importance in the arc of transformation

e.   How to create learning tasks designed to cultivate a breakthrough

Testimonials

“Keith‘s Coaching workshop is a deeper, more comprehensive take on coaching issues and coaching effectiveness. His investigation of paradigms, access to transformation and clearly delineated process steps allow for strong direction and flexibility. If you’re looking for a comprehensive insightful view of coaching that allows coaches to become much more effective, this is the workshop for you.”

William Stevens, Managing Partner of the Fulcrum Group and EEngine Coaching Services

“Keith brings a wealth of coaching experience to this training.  He provides both a rigorous framework for coaching for transformation, as well as covering the coaching “basics” that are required to successfully use it.  Because of that, this course would be useful both for experienced coaches interested in making a transformative difference for their clients, as well as those without formal training in coaching, but with the aptitude and desire to become coaches.”

Bill Hunter, SeeChange Consulting

“This class has given me a framework that helps me understand why some of what I do as a consultant/coach has worked well, and how and where I could have a bigger impact more consistently. It is not a cookie-cutter approach like so many other programs seem to be. It has expanded my appreciation of the role of coaches, clarified what “good” looks like in coaching, and given me the tools and knowledge about how to stay on the right path during a coaching process.”

Debbie Morris, Organization Consultant/Coach

“Although I've been successfully coaching for 20 years, I enrolled in this course because I've always been fascinated by paradigms. I teach my clients about the paradigm of hierarchy in order to help them navigate to a collaborative one. I teach a Jungian psycho-spiritual paradigm in my retreats. Yet I have routinely felt like a novice in this course. I'm learning new concepts, tools and ways of being with my clients. But even more, I'm learning about the boundary between my own paradigm and that of my clients. I cherish the highly impactful, deeply respectful approach that Keith is teaching. It is fundamentally shifting my own stance.”

Rachel Conerly, Founder and CEO of the Collaborative Operating System

“What really stands out for me is Keith’s exceptional clarity and experience in identifying and working specifically with paradigms to create breakthroughs for others. And I’ve been able to incorporate his very concrete, multi-step, user friendly model right away. Not only has Keith’s system added a new tool to my quiver, but his coaching commentary also provides me with unexpected, invaluable nuggets that expand my understanding of my coaching craft.”

Michael Lipson, Executive Coach and Consultant

"Taking Keith's Transformational Coaching workshop has without a doubt changed the way I view my self, and how I will be working with my clients. To learn that often what the client is presenting is usually fueled by a/many paradigms was groundbreaking for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed his lectures learning about this, and found the practice coaching sessions to be extremely helpful in working through and understanding the transformation process. Thank you Keith for your knowledge and insight - it has shifted my inner world."

Lexi Hyman, Life Coach

“The Art of Transformational Coaching will revolutionize the way you think about problems and habits. It provides a deep look into the nature of how patterns are formed and an innovative, precise formula to elevate awareness, move beyond blocks in a non-threatening way, and ultimate design a new way of living that is empowering and effective. Every coach can benefit from these tools. And every person can benefit from challenging and changing their paradigms.”

Sitarani Crevier, Life Coach

“The Transformation I experienced as a result of Keith Merron’s work was a return to myself. A connection to my own deepest inner knowing.”

Bob Leach M.A.

I joined the Art of Transformational Coaching workshop because I knew and trusted Keith from a previous retreat experience, and I'm walking way with an even bigger appreciation for his wisdom and expertise. I've been in the coaching business for a few years, and this course has given me new tools for delivering more value to my clients and for supporting my own personal development goals. It's a compassionate, client-centered, whole-person approach for helping folks to lean into what they want and figure out what's getting in the way.

Chris Kisling, Executive Coach

I've participated in a number of coaching workshops, and I experienced Keith Merron's The Art of Transformational Coaching Workshop as remarkably clear and highly applicable to my work. The simplicity in his model and the numerous references to source material and other models helped put the methods into context, and Keith's presentation, teaching and leadership style is also notably clear, grounded, and effective. Perhaps most of all, he was able to present in a way that kept the focus on the material, as opposed to the presenter. I wholeheartedly recommend The Art of Transformational Coaching workshop to anyone seeking powerful methods for coaching and transformation.

You learn it, practice it, and debrief what worked and where you got stuck. It's chock full of references and Keith uses many models to build his concept until you can see it clearly.

Karen Cornwell, Leadership and Inclusiveness Coach, Author of “You Can’t Fix What You Can’t See

Keith Merron has devoted years to studying paradigms and transformations and how they are connected. His insights on how we operate, and what observations and changes are really necessary to make lasting change in our lives are gentle and helpful, and his willingness to work with his students and acknowledge his own paradigms makes him more believable and accessible and therefore helpful.

Mike Normant, Executive Coach, Author of “Coach Yourself Up

Hi Keith:  Just wanted to write you a note to let you know how much I loved and appreciated your course in Transformational Coaching.  I have taken it all (Hudson Institute training, Strozzi Somatic Coach, and a raft of additional certifications and supervisions).  Your course has been one of the absolute best.  You have helped me be a better coach.  Since the first class where you contracted with the group until the last class where I had the privilege of working on one of my issues, you exemplified the transformational power of creating just right blend of empathy, compassion, and accountability between the coach and client.  What I take away the most is the importance of stepping up to hold the tensile strength of the connection in coaching.  Without it, the coaching becomes flat, too much and the coaching becomes prescriptive.  Just the right amount and both the coach and client are alert, connected, and curious.  Thank you for embodying these important principles.  I am eager to be included in a practicum and to keep working with you.  Let me know the next best steps and thank you again!

Julia Holloway, Executive Coach
